As one illusionist said, very few people actually see a live magic show. They see magicians on TV, but seldom attend a show of live illusionists. In the case of “The Illusionists” several have been on the summer series America’s Got Talent. Because of the need to stand out from the crowd, these professionals could headline a show in Las Vegas or on Broadway. In this case, “The Illusionists” produced a Broadway show that now travels throughout the country, bringing the special trickster’s signature show-stopping skills to the Kansas City audience.
A representative from Theater League said that several other magicians rotate in and out as the show travels. He said that some of the illusions change as well. He also said that even backstage, the magicians work independently and guard their illusions.
Because of the show’s intricate nature and the necessity to make all parts of the abracadabra hi-jinx to flabbergast the audience a moving cameraman walks and video feeds a large illuminated screen so that even the slightest and smallest of up-close or far away magic is projected on the screen so every piece of the illusionist’s craftsmanship can be seen.
The seven illusionists performing at Kansas City’s Music Hall are: Andrew Bosso, The Escapologist; Colin Cloud, The Deductionist; Jeff Hobson, The Trickster; Kevin James, The Inventor; An Ha Lim, The Manipulator; Darcy Oake, The Grand Illusionist; and Don Sperry, The Anti-Conjuror. All these men stand out. Not one outshines the other in this presentation. Each brings his highest caliber stunts to stupify the audience with their wizardry.
“The Illusionists” continues through Sunday at The Music Hall. For tickets, information, times, etc. visit Theater League’s website. Do not miss this spectacular show.
