Playwrights Co-op Brings Four New Plays To

The 2018 Kansas City Fringe Festival,

July 19 to July 29

KANSAS CITY, MO – Kansas City playwrights Pete Bakely, Prisca Jebet Kendagor, Mike Rice and Joshua Efron have banded together to bring four brand new plays to the 2018 Kansas City Fringe Festival. The group of writers vary in experience and style and have come up with a slate of new theater to entertain and challenge audiences. All four plays will be presented by the KC Fringe Festival at the Unicorn Theatre’s Jerome Stage at varying times July 19 to July 29.

The plays are:

ADULTING by Prisca Jebet Kendagor. A nostalgia filled story about an old group of childhood friends that many millennials may find VERY familiar. These once babies, now fully grown (and slightly dysfunctional) have re-united for the first time in years to attend an old friend’s funeral. A bittersweet reunion for the Nickelodeon generation facing their thirties.

It is directed by Jake Walker and plays Saturday, July 21- 8:00 PM; Sunday, July 22 – 5:00 PM; Monday, July 23 – 8:00 PM; Friday, July 27 – 8:00 PM and Saturday, July 28 – 3:30 PM.

SLURRY by Mike Rice. In the middle of the night an intoxicated Wade Cruze climbs through the window of the bedroom where his ex-girlfriend Sherry is asleep. She’s not happy to see Wade until he reveals that his life is in danger because of his job at the chocolate manufacturing plant where both of them_and Sherry’s current beaux_work.

It is directed by Scott Cordes and plays Saturday, July 21 – 5:00 PM; Sunday, July 22 – 3:30 PM; Tuesday, July 24 – 6:30 PM; Friday, July 27 – 9:30 PM and Saturday, July 28 – 8:00 PM

PRODUCTS OF CONCEPTION by Joshua Efron. Three sisters, trapped in a small dark room against their will, attempt to determine who will come out on top, and if any of them are really on the same team. The sisters are fetuses – the room is a womb – and not all of them are going to make it out alive.

It is directed by Wendy Buchheit and plays Friday, July 20 – 6:30 PM; Saturday, July 21 – 9:30 PM; Sunday, July 22 – 6:30 PM; Wednesday, July 25 – 6:30 PM; Saturday, July 28 – 2:00 PM.

JO by Pete Bakely. Jo comes home one day to discover her roommate Gloria is God, her hated co-worker Lu is Lucifer and God has accidently turned her boyfriend into a pillar of salt. Gloria and Lu have a task for her. She doesn’t want to do it, but God and Lucifer don’t like to take no for an answer. This three-scene comedy is based on The Book of Jonah and explores the nature of life, free-will and what deities do on vacation.

It is directed by De De DeVille and plays Saturday, July 21 – 6:30 PM; Sunday, July 22 – 2:00 PM; Tuesday, July 24 – 8:00 PM; Friday, July 27 – 6:30 PM and Saturday, July 28 – 5:00 PM.

All four plays are for Mature Audiences Only.

Ticket prices are $10 each and require the one time purchase of a $5.00 Fringe button.
