KC Applauds, (kcapplauds.net) plans its second benefit variety show from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27 at Trinity Community Church, 5010 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104, to raise money for KC AIDS Walk, with monies remaining in the Kansas City Metro area to assist with research and victims.
Last year, a similar show in July raised nearly $2,000 for Pulse victims in Florida after the siege at Pulse in Orlando, Florida. Because of the success of that evening of entertainment, a second production is planned, but this time all money remains in Kansas City Metro and will be donated to KC AIDS Walk.
The focus is well-known Broadway show tunes as well as 1950s and 1960’s Top 40 AM radio hits. The show should be fun, lively, and entertaining for all ages. The show is family friendly. Suggested donation is $20 per adult and $10 for students and seniors 60+.
“After the success of last year’s show,” Bob Evans, owner of KC Applauds, said, “the music directors and cast said they loved the venue and the chance to give to a greater cause. They all appeared to enjoy themselves and would perform again if asked. Doing the show means a lot of work, but the reward for creating something for the good of others gives such great satisfaction. I was anxious to try again with this effort aimed at the Kansas City community.
“Once the date and venue requirements were set, getting the cast proved simple. Over 25 local performing artists have planned to perform. Of course, there can be conflicts, but we have enough talent to fill a 90-100 minute show with spectacular voices and great musical selections. All of the performers have performed throughout the KC area over the years. Many have starred at New Theater, Theatre in the Park, The Barn, Quality Hill Playhouse, Worlds of Fun, The Chestnut, Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, and other venues. This show is overflowing with talent.
“The good news is that those who were previously booked for this date has already asked to be included in next year’s show. I even have a waiting list of performers who have only heard about the show and volunteered already for next year. I could not be more pleased.”
