Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre (MET), recipient of this year’s Broadway World-Kansas City award for Best Play and Best Director for their production last spring of the North American premiere of The Shawshank Redemption, is pleased to present the fourth show of the season, the Kansas City premiere of MOTHER OF THE MAID by Jane Anderson. This is Kansas City premiere of this exciting new play relating the story of Joan of Arc as a teenage girl through the eyes of her mother, Isabelle Arc.
Set in the years 1428-31, the play is set in on the Arc family farm, in Rheims, and in the cell where Joan is held captive before her death. Isabelle Arc is a sensible, hard-working, God-fearing woman. Her headstrong daughter, on the other hand, communes with Saint Catherine, dons men’s clothing and prepares to lead the French army into battle.
Motherhood in the fifteenth century is not easy. Isabelle follows the baffling journey of her odd and extraordinary daughter with a mother’s loving persistence—facing her own fears and upended faith along the way.
This Broadway hit makes its KC Premiere in a limited run at the Warwick Theatre. Get your tickets now for this new take on the story of Joan of Arc told from the perspective of her mum. Deeply moving and sometimes funny, this play is not to be missed!
