Mighty Mo Combo debuts concert series
Local jazz ensemble Mighty Mo Combo, a subset of Mid America Freedom Band, announces the debut of its new concert series with a free performance at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 17.
This rising Kansas City community jazz band performs selections from Benny Carter’s renowned “Kansas City Suite,” published in 1960 and recently re-printed. The charts were originally recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra, and feature movements such as Paseo Promenade and Jackson County Suite. The performance is at Central Presbyterian Church, 3501 Campbell Street, Kansas City, Missouri. The venue is handicapped accessible.
Director Skip Schrock and Assistant Director Jessie Riggins bring a historic and local KC jazz flavor through the selections being presented. Mighty Mo Combo features over a dozen musicians who will perform big-band style swing charts reminiscent of Kansas City’s jazz history.
An audience reception in the adjoining Proudfoot Fellowship Hall follows the performance. Light treats and refreshments will be served. Honorees at the reception will include donors of Mighty Mo Combo’s parent organization, Mid America Freedom Band, a 501(c) non-profit.
The performance on Nov. 17 is free and open to the public.
