KANSAS CITY, MO –.Midwest Dramatists Center, a Kansas City, Mo.-based playwrights organization, hosts its first playwriting conference September 28-30, 2017, where more than 40 visiting playwrights and theater professionals from around the country will be in attendance.
The conference will feature panels for the visiting attendees, but several activities will be open to the public, including: an opening night reception (Thursday), staged readings of original short plays (Friday and Saturday), and a Gala dinner (Saturday night). All-inclusive packages are $65 per person, but tickets to individual events may also be purchased. For more information, please go to www.midwestdramatists.org.
Also open to the public will be the Midwest Comedy Scene-Off, on Friday, September 29, at 7:30pm. Audience participants can write one-minute scenes based on a given prompt and have them performed immediately after by local actors.
Playwrights selected to participate in the inaugural conference will receive exclusive 50-minute workshops and feed back on their staged readings from nationally recognized industry professionals Morgan Allen (New Dramatists, NYC), Gerald VanHeerden (Midtown International Theatre Festival), Valerie Novakoff (Associate Producer, Davenport Theatrical Enterprises), and NYC producer and theatre administrator George Simon.
The 2017 Midwest Dramatists Center Conference and all affiliated events will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Olathe Kansas, 12080 S. Strang Line Road.
The Midwest Dramatists Center is a creative home, family, and support network for emerging playwrights who want to further their art and its impact on the greater theater community.
