We know your inbox is already flooded with emails from companies and organizations informing you of their response to the COVID-19 situation. We happen to be in a unique position as this has struck exactly at the time of our big transition from 1818 McGee to The Black Box in the West Bottoms. Here are some key updates:
American Idiot, a planned rental production from Padgett Productions, has beenpostponed until May, when it is planned to run at The Black Box. It will no longer take place at 1818 McGee.
In accordance with the recommendations of the CDC, both The Living Room (1818 McGee) and The Black Box (1060 Union Ave) are closed. The Black Box will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. The 1818 McGee theatre will not reopen – this is our final farewell to that grand old building, and our hearts are full of gratitude for the 10 wonderful years we’ve had there.
Our planned donor celebration at The Black Box on April 5th has also been postponed. We will be reaching out to donors as soon as we can make an alternative plan for this event.
We are still raising funds for our transition via this online portal. Theatre League has generously offered to match all donations up to $25,000 – and we’ve made a lot of progress toward that goal. We know that this is a time of uncertainty and austerity, especially for artists, many of whom have seen both their careers and their day jobs put on hold. Our mission from the start has been to provide Kansas City with a solid hub for accessible, quality theatre, and we suspect that that need will be greater than ever when we come out the other side of this crisis. If you feel that you are able, any few dollars you can contribute would be infinitely appreciated.
