KC Rep clarifies previous info

Dear Friends of KCRep,
We want to clarify information shared in a story in the Kansas City Star last week. The Star reported that A Christmas Carol is being cancelled this year. While we are moving away from our traditional large-scale production of A Christmas Carol, we are in the midst of reimagining a way to share this beloved story with our community.
In the time of COVID-19, all of us are being forced to make extraordinary choices. The pivot to reimagine A Christmas Carol is necessary due to social distancing, additional requirements of our union partners, and the trajectory of current cases in Kansas City.
Additionally, the KC Star reported that our entire season is cancelled and we believe it missed the heart of what we were trying to convey. We are curating a reimagined season that is unique and possible in the time of COVID-19. In September we expect to announce a new slate of shows that may include in-person performances in our theatres, outdoor family-friendly events, and/or digital theatrical experiences.
When we announced the original season, the first programmed by our new artistic director Stuart Carden, we were filled with ambition and excitement for our future. The new season was designed to blow the doors off and make theatre matter to more people. The season was a large scale with larger casts.
However, COVID-19 has changed the reality of producing theatre at this moment and we are inventing new ways of connecting. As a valued ticket holder, supporter, board member, usher, staff member, artistic, or other valued members of our community, your safety is our highest priority.
From all of us at KCRep, thank you for your patience, understanding, and for being an advocate and supporter of the arts. We can’t wait to share stories that are impactful and transformational, hopefully in the very near future.
