KCRep Announces Two Industry Veterans as New Development and Marketing Executives

 Kansas City Repertory Theatre today announced the appointment of two new executives to the KCRep Management team; MaryLee Guthrie joins the staff as Director of Development, and Jana Liles joins the team as Director of Marketing.

The Director of Development’s role is to obtain underwriting and donations to fulfill the mission of Kansas City Repertory Theatre, which is to pursue theatrical excellence and advance the art form, creating and sharing stories at the center of the nation’s creative crossroads. KCRep cultivates passionate audiences, artists and advocates who are invested in its region’s future, building community by connecting people through productions and programming that educate, entertain, challenge and inspire.

A LaMonte, Missouri native, Guthrie joins KCRep from her most recent position as the Assistant Dean of Advancement, Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta, located in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. She was promoted to that role, initially serving as the Regional Director, Advancement.

Prior to that, she served as Director of Prospect Research & Management at the University of Central Missouri, UCM Foundation, from  2011 to 2015. She also worked with the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri for six years.

Guthrie holds a Bachelor of Science, Business Management from the University of Central Missouri, is engaged and has one adult child who is a professional opera singer.

The Director of Marketing oversees all aspects of advertising and public relations and is responsible for earned revenue, including ticket sales for productions as well as marketing other non-ticketed events.

Jana Liles

Jana Liles comes to KCRep from Chicago, Illinois, where she was the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Tony Award-winning Victory Gardens Theater. Before that role, she was the Director of Marketing and Publicity at The Second City. Prior to joining The Second City, she was the Director of Audience Development and Casting at Adventure Stage Chicago.

A Salina, Kansas native, Jana has a B.F.A. in Theatre from Emporia State University and an M.F.A. in Theatre from The Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. She was a proud member of the League of Chicago Theatre’s board and co-chair of the Marketing Committee for the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events “Year of Chicago Theatre” audience engagement initiative.

“My husband and I have lived in Chicago for the past 18 years, and we’ve had our eye on Kansas City for a while. We’ve visited often, and each time have been blown away by the vibrant cultural scene and support for the arts,” enthuses Liles. “When this opportunity presented itself to me, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. KCRep is well-known and respected on the national stage as an outstanding Regional Theatre. It is one of those rare organizations that has found the balance of being solidly rooted in rich history while also innovating and leading into the future. I can’t wait to get to know the talented staff fully, meet all of our patrons, join the greater KC arts community and see what exciting things the next few seasons hold for all of us.”

Founded in 1964 by Dr. Patricia McIlrath, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, the professional theatre in residence at UMKC, is led by Artistic Director, Stuart Carden and Executive Director, Angela Lee Gieras.
