“Huck Finn and the Mystery of The Ominous Shadow” written and directed by Phil Kinen is an original tale of a 26-year old Huckleberry Finn teaming up with a newspaper rival to investigate the strange crimes of their nemesis, Ominous Shadow is a production of the Kansas City Fringe Festival at the Just Off Broadway Theatre, 3051 Penn Valley Drive in Kansas City Missouri, playing Friday, July 20 through Saturday, July 28.

26-year old Huck Finn finds himself collaborating on fictitious murder mystery news articles alongside his despised rival newspaper reporter, the arrogant and sophisticated Silas Condesent. Yet, the popular articles inspire the murderous villain, Ominous Shadow to sadistically recreate their stories on unsuspecting victims as he hunts down the duo to create their demise. Strangely, Huck’s own feelings toward his adversary Silas bring into question the mysterious emergence of his own inner ominous shadow.

This year, Jake Leet, once again takes on the role of Huck Finn who is working under the nom de plume of Harley Forge.  The role of the manipulative Silas Condesent will be portrayed by Vincent Wagner who has been seen on the Unicorn, Coterie, and The Living Room stages.

Completion of the Cycle

Kinen will be completing the cycle later this year by incorporating Chapters Five and Six with scenes of Huck Finn and Peter Pan from the First Chapter, “Never, Ever, After”.  The full-length production entitled, “In Regard to Flight” centers around a 72-year-old Huck Finn reminiscing about his life with his old pal Tom Sawyer.  Jake Leet will return to play the 14-year-old Huck and Roan Ricker is set to portray Peter Pan.  The show will run two weekends beginning Oct 12 at the Just Off-Broadway Theatre.

“Huck Finn and the Mystery of The Ominous Shadow” will leave audiences on the edge of their seats with its plot twists as they attempt to discover the identity of the Ominous Shadow.  The production is an adult themed show due to adult content and strong language.
