The Theatre in the Park Academy
There’s nothing like it!
In its second year, the TTIP Academy is one of a kind. Not only does the Academy put on high quality, camp like productions during the summer – your young performer can work hand in hand with professionals from around the metro, as well as from across the nation. This year we are bringing in Professional Artists on a local and national level to show performers and techies how to hone their craft and become the theatre artists they can be!
This summer the Academy has expanded and is offering technical camps, a longer BIGGER production in July, and two shows in rep in June.
You don’t want to miss out on the summer of FUN with The Theatre In The Park and the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center!
Backstage Is The Best Stage!
The Theatre in the Park Academy has begun it’s steps to be the number one spot in Kansas City for Technical Theatre training. We begin this summer with the new Scenic and Costume Academies! Read more about each below…
The TTIP Scenic Academy will work with the Academy Technical Director on all aspects of the shows this summer. Academy participants will help design, build, paint, set lights, work microphones, stage manage, and run each of the Academy productions this summer at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center!
A first of its kind, you don’t want to miss out!
An actor brings a character to the stage, but the costume brings the actor’s character to life. Costumes are one of the most important parts of a theatrical production and that’s why this art form has its own Academy! Working with the Academy Costume Designer, participants will design, build, fit, and alter costumes for Academy productions. With shows like “Willy Wonka” and “Lion King”…this will be a summer to remember!
Let your performer’s mind go WILD!
“James and the Giant Peach JR.” will be presented this July in The Blackbox Theatre at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center…and you can be a part of it!
Register Today!
Theatrical professionals will work with your young performer in all aspects of theatre, ranging from audition techniques to final performance. Each session culminates in a fully staged black box performance of one of your favorites. Costumes, props, set pieces, painting, acting, singing, and dancing will all be covered during every session.
Before and After Open Studio available for an additional fee.
Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, “James and the Giant Peach JR.” is a brand new take on this “masterpeach” of a tale! When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean!
There’s still time to sign up for June Academy shows!
