Kansas Citians to Rappel 10 Stories to Raise Funds for the Arts
Thrill-seekers, KC Fringe Fest-lovers, stir-crazy arts lovers with a philanthropic bent, your time has come…
Registration is now open to take part in KC Fringe’s inaugural Over the Edge Celebration at 39th and Main Street in the heart of Midtown KC. Fringe fundraisers will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to climb over the railing of Kansas City’s highest rooftop restaurant, the Canary Rooftop Lounge. Over the Edge Global, an Urban Repelling experience group that hosts repelling fundraisers all over the world, will then guide Fringe supporters to rappel 10 stories down the side of the beautifully renovated historic Netherland Residences. Once they’ve returned to solid ground, patrons will be steps from the street level Canary Bar & Bistro and can enjoy a well-earned expertly crafted cocktail!
The event will take place Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m with some celebrity descents the night before, Friday, August 27th. Participation is open to the first 75 applicants who raise a minimum of $1,000. Options for corporate involvement are also available. Proceeds are tax-deductible and benefit the KC Fringe Festival, Kansas City’s largest celebration of arts and culture.
“The KC Fringe Festival live performance brings magic to KC every year,” says key sponsor and co-instigator Ilan Salzberg of Exact, “The artists of the Fringe create a fresh space where new ideas, new perspectives and new solutions are possible. What better way of capturing the spirit of the Fringe than by quite literally embracing the fringe and going over the edge of the tallest building on the tallest hill in the absolute heartbeat of the city? We are overjoyed to be a part of what we hope becomes a tradition for Kansas Citians and raise funds for the arts at the same time.”
On-the-ground viewing will be free to the public who will watch the select 75 brave Fringe supporters safely descend this KC landmark. Over the Edge is presented in partnership with By Exact LLC, developers of KC regional properties. Additional support is provided by The Netherland Residences, The Canary Bar and Bistro.
“We have had to offer a virtual KC Fringe for two years, and we are eager to return live, with gusto, in 2022. KC Fringe is all about creativity and trying out new ideas. Over the Edge is an out-of-the-box and over-the-top way to take our fundraising and work to a new level as we return to live performances in 2022,” says Cheryl Kimmi, executive director and founder of the 17-year old nonprofit arts organization and staple of the Kansas City arts scene.
Registration is now open to participants, with details available at https://kcfringe.org/ote-fundraiser/ . No experience or prior training is needed to participate. Experts on the Over the Edge technical staff will provide the expertise, training, and equipment needed for a safe experience.
Don’t want to go it alone? Consider “Tossing the Boss” (who needs to agree, of course), the Go-Pro Experience (which includes a video of your adventure), or the Daring Duo Challenge.
