Kansas City Aerial Arts Performing Arts Company (formerly Lucia Aerial), in partnership with VidaDance, will present its Student and Apprentice Division’s show THE GREATEST SHOW AT FRINGE on July 20th(8pm), July 21st(2pm), July 22nd(6:30pm), July 25th (8pm), and July 28th(6:30pm) at the Kansas City Ballet’s Bolender Center.
The Greatest Show at Fringeharkens back to early 1900’s when Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Baily merged to create what they billed as “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Combining the aerial and acrobatic feats of Kansas City Aerial Arts and the eclectic stylings of VidaDance, The Greatest Show at Fringe modernizes the three-ring circus while keeping the nostalgia of showman-ship and variety alive. This show is sure to leave its audience both awed and inspired.
The variety of performance in this show is one of it’s strengths, with both aerial and ground acts. Aerial soloists Melissa Bratton, Elaine Zinn, and Katie Williamson will be choreographing original pieces for this production (with the assistance of Georgeanna Layton and Kelsey Aicher). New group numbers for this show are being choreographed by Elena Sherman, Liv Morrow, and members of the VidaDance company. Additionally, an aerial number originally choreographed for KCAA’s production Stealing Fire will be resurrected and perfected for Fringe. Owner, Daniel Parks, is excited to direct this show for the KC Fringe Festival. Parks said, “We feel that Fringe Festival is the perfect occasion to bring the nostalgia of traditional circus to our fellow Kansas City performers.”
According to the KC Fringe website, “The guiding principle of Fringe Festivals worldwide involve uncensored artistic expression, accessibility and community development. Fringing encourages artists and audiences to explore boundaries and to make bold choices in the creation – or enjoyment – of art. The KC Fringe Festival’s goal is to provide artists an opportunity to create and perform new material right here in our backyard!” KCAA is excited to be a part of the KC Fringe Festival again this year, and highly suggest attending as many performances throughout the festival as possible!
