The FABULOUS King James Bible

Written and Directed by Michael Knight

Produced by New Generation Theatrical

July 10-August 1

From the writer of The Foreplay: An Exploration of the Birth of Our Nation, best in venue winner (MTH stage 2) at the 2018 Kansas City Fringe comes a brand new historical comedy that will make you both laugh and think as our highly adept actors explore the creation of the scripture in The FABULOUS King James Bible, written and directed by Michael Knight, showing digitally as part of the 2021 Kansas City Fringe Festival!

In the 1500’s the historically gay King James I proposed a new translation of the bible, birthing the most popular version to date. But why? In this hilariously historically inaccurate play, King James questions the role of the church and the scripture, in both the monarchy and in the homes of the common people in order to make way for his new translation, much to the chagrin of two high priests who are nothing if not traditional. The fast-paced and witty banter provide an accessible look as to how this translation came to be, and asks the question: Why can’t religion be a bit more fabulous?

This play is fresh off of runs from Pittsburgh Fringe 2021 where it won the Best Comedic Writing Award, and Orlando Winter Mini-Fringe where it was selected as an official Patron’s Pick. Don’t miss this hilariously historically inaccurate piece!

The KC Fringe Virtual Festival is happening online July 18 to August 1, 2021. Get tickets and passes at kcfringe.org.
