Breakout comedy comes to Barn Players

WHAT MAKES A FAMILY? THE BARN PLAYERS “TORCH SONG TRILOGY” ANSWERS THAT QUESTION WITH LOVE, LAUGHTER, AND MORE…

Kansas City, MO (May 7, 2018). You’ll have eight chances only to get a unique glimpse into New York’s underground gay 80s, when the Barn Players present Harvey Fierstein’s breakthrough comedy / drama TORCH SONG TRILOGY, Thursday May 31st through Sunday June 10th, 2018.

TORCH SONG TRILOGY chronicles New York City drag queen Arnold Beckoff’s longings for love, respect and family in a world perhaps not well suited for him. Armed with a piercing sense of humor, Arnold pushes the boundaries in a story that confirms that his search for happiness is worth carrying a torch for. This award winning work broke new ground in the acknowledgment of American alternative lifestyles presented dramatically.

Director Chris McCoy says, “After “Boys in the Band” and before “Angels in America” there is the Tony Award winning TORCH SONG TRILOGY, which has now become an even more important, historic LGBTQ story about reconciliation and coming to terms with oneself and one’s family.”

The Barn Players production of TORCH SONG TRILOGY is directed by Chris McCoy: With Philip blue owl Hooser as Arnold Beckoff, and a supporting cast that includes: Shelby Bessette, Brent Custer, Ellie DeShon, Derrick Freeman, Sam Hoffman, Alex Leondedis, Jennifer Loumiet, and Lynn McCutchen. Stage management is by Grace Urquhart; Set design is by Nathan Wyman; Lighting design is by Zoe Spangler; Costume coordination is by Steven Ansel; Sound design is by Amanda Underwood; and Board operation is by Courtney Klein.
