KC Applauds believes Black Lives Matter
The current situation of unrest and racial divide causes me to break my silence and step into the arena for Black Lives Matter. My website supports the Artist Community in the Kansas City Metro Area, the theatres, venues, performers, and artists who make their living in the Arts. Even though I mostly review live theatre performances, I encourage attendance and support of the entire Artist Community.
I write and review the material that is presented before me. I have no say in material selection, casting, technical, or other aspects of productions. I stand with long overdue justice reforms.
I believe we live in a time when change must happen. Progress needs to happen–and happen now. No one sees the world through the same eyes. Two reviewers sitting side by side and view the same show and come away with different thoughts and opinions. We need to see the world through the eyes of those who have been denied fair, equal treatment. We need to demand justice, no.
I have experienced several changes related to race from Brown Vs. the Topeka Board of Education; through the Civil Rights Movement; myriad deaths of black persons who were denied justice; and most recently, the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police officers. The country needs positive movement, growth, understanding, and healing as we hopefully move to a higher social conscious.
We are past the time to talk, to show concern, and to wring hands. We need action, and we need it now. Justice has evaded the Black Community far too long.
Please join me to confirm: Black Lives Matter.
