Kansas City Aerial Arts (formerly Lucia Aerial), will present its Training Company show on April 12 and 13 at 7:30 PM and April 14 at 2:30 PM at the H & R Block City Stage Theater at Union Station.
For forty years, Fountain City has been filled with masked super-humans—heroes and villains alike. Now, the destructive League of Loathing has discovered a way to strip heroes of their superpowers, upsetting the balance of good and evil. In the midst of this dramatic battle of super-humanity, a hero and villain fall in love and change the destiny of their fair city.
MASKED! A Superhero Love Story plays homage to the Silver Age of comics through aerial dance and acrobatics. Superheroes fly on trapezes, villains battle on silks, and citizens tumble through the city in their everyday lives. Best of all, the action is held together by a narrative story of love and friendship suitable for all ages. The incredible feats of the performers will have you wondering if they really do have superpowers.
The show is written by KCAA Training Company Program Director, Kelsey Aicher. Aicher, who has a background in screenwriting, will be making her directorial debut with MASKED! She commented, “I have loved superheroes ever since I watched my first episode of Batman: The Animated Series as a kid. To be directing an entire show about superheroes with these talented performers is truly a dream come true. I am constantly impressed by their dedication and ability to surpass all my expectations. There is no other group of people I would want to create this show with.” Members of the Training Company range in age from 10-50, and will be performing on a variety of aerial apparatuses, as well as dance, partner-acro, and contortion. Pieces range from group numbers to solos, all transitioning together to tell a fun and wonderful story. All pieces in MASKED! A Superhero Love Story are new works, specifically choreographed for this production.
