Dance Your Way Into “‘Master Harold’… and the Boys” With a Special Pre-Show Presentation
We’re proud to present Athol Fugard’s “‘Master Harold’… and the Boys” at the City Stage in Union Station from September 11 – 29. This award-winning, poignant coming-of-age drama promises to leave an indelible impression on audiences.
The story revolves around Sam (Walter Coppage) and Willie (Khalif Gillett), two black men living in apartheid-era South Africa, and Hally (Arthur Clifford), the teenage son of the owners of the tea room they work in. Willie is preparing for the big annual ballroom dance competition with Sam’s help, and the dance becomes important within the story itself…
As a special, one-time event onThursday, September 19th, we will be presenting a live pre-show dance demo and lesson from “‘Master Harold’… and the Boys” choreographer, Shelley K. Judd! In a 30-minute presentation, Shelley will talk about the history of the quick step and the foxtrot, demonstrate the steps with her partner, and (time permitted) teach a few volunteers!
