STARLIGHT THEATRE CLOSES SEASON WITH HIGH-HEELED HIT
Kinky Boots, Winner of 6 Tony Awards Including Best Musical,
Brings Action, Emotion to Stage for Three Nights Only Sept. 29-Oct. 3
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The 2017 Broadway season at Starlight Theatre will conclude on a high-heeled note later this month with the huge-hearted hit musical Kinky Boots. The national tour of Broadway’s 2013 Tony Award®-winning Best Musical takes the Starlight stage for three nights only the weekend of Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots takes audiences from a gentlemen’s shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan. Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family business of Price & Son. With the factory’s future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos. The uplifting and heartwarming tale follows Charlie and Lola as they find shared inspiration and discover that it takes a good friend to make a great pair.
Winner of six 2013 Tony Awards, Kinky Boots features a Tony-winning score by rock/pop icon Cyndi Lauper, book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell.
“There is much to enjoy in this musical – memorable music, fabulous performers in sturdy stilettos and spot-on comedy,” said Rich Baker, Starlight President and CEO. “But, even better, there is much to learn. Kinky Boots subtly, yet effectively, shares important messages about open-mindedness, acceptance, respect and even the value of taking the occasional risk. It’s a story that’s relatable for everyone.”
Principal actors leading the cast of the national tour are Lance Bordelon as Charlie Price, Jos N. Banks as Lola, Sydney Patrick as Lauren, Adam du Plessis as Don, Hayley Lampart as Nicola, and John Anker Bow as George. Playing the Angels are Brandon Alberto, Eric Stanton Betts, Derek Brazeau, Tyler Jent, Tony Tillman and Ernest Terrelle Williams.
Now in its fifth sold-out year at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Broadway, Kinky Boots has won every major Best Musical Award. It also boasts an Olivier Award-winning production in London, an Australian production that opened in October 2016, and an upcoming production in Germany. Other previous productions include the first U.S. national tour that played more than 80 cities, an award-winning extended run in Toronto, two productions in Korea, and a Japanese language production. The Original Broadway Cast Recording won a Grammy Award and is available on Sony Masterworks Broadway.
